SSB Law launches compliance service

SHEFFIELD legal firm SSB Law is continuing its successful expansion programme with the launch of a new Compliance division.

SSB Compliance, based at the company’s Townhead Street head office, is being headed Andrew McLaughlan and Brian Greevy, both of whom have more than 20 years experience in law and the compliance sector.

“There is a need for all solicitors to comply with the Solicitors’ Code of Conduct, which is set down by the Solicitors’ Regulation Authority,” said SSB partner Jeremy Brooke.

“Part of that process is the need to have a compliance officer for both legal practices and also for finances and administrative reasons.

‘Their duties, however, extend beyond the interests of the law firm to the client, ensuring from both sides that there should never be any need to invoke the powers of the Solicitors’ Regulation Authority.“

SSB Compliance will continue and enhance SSB Law’s successful policy of offering a one stop shop approach to complex legal matters.

“We will be providing a safety net for our clients,” said Jeremy. “By coming to us, they will know they have experts they can depend on at every level of the compliance process.”

SSB Compliance was launched at the beginning of June and is already handing compliance issues for clients across the UK.

“This is very much a national initiative and we have had a fantastic response, with clients as far afield as London and North Yorkshire and ranging from small to extremely large law firms,” said Jeremy.

The division also offers an extensive training programme, preparing clients to become fully accredited in compliance and also ensuring they remain completely up to date with all new compliance processes.

“Compliance is a critical element of every legal practice, the code by which we all operate but we can help not only to maintain that code but also ensure every area is covered,” said Jeremy.

“The critical point of all the services we provide is that it is fundamental to our clients’ wellbeing.”
